Okmulgee Main Street and the Okmulgee Arts & Humanities Council are hosting the 2nd Annual 48-Hour film festival in conjunction with the 2017 Harvest Spoon Chili Festival.

Join us at the Orpheum Theatre for the 3rd annual Okmulgee Main Street 48 Hour Film Festival (Main Street 48), where film makers from across the area will be competing in a short film challenge. Contestants will have 48 hours to produce a short film for a chance to win cash prizes, one of which is the Audience Choice Award.

After the Chili Festival prizes have been awarded, walk on over to the Orpheum Theatre for the "Orange Carpet" event beginning at 4:00 pm and stay for the screening of all of the 48-hour entries which will begin at 5:00 pm.   Join us in supporting local filmmakers in an evening of entertainment at the historic Orpheum Theater.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00.

Okmulgee Main Street and the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to sponsor this year’s Scare on the Square for trick or treaters 12 years old and younger.

The annual downtown trick or treating will be on Monday, Oct. 31 from 4 - 6 p.m.

The Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce will be holding the costume contest in the Jim Newport Pocket Park at 5 p.m.

All participating merchants need to register with Okmulgee Main Street in order to reserve a space and to also be included in all the event’s publicity. to register, please contact the Okmulgee Main Street office at 918-758-1015 before Oct. 21.

Third Annual 6x6 Canvas Art Show will be held in downtown Okmulgee this year June 9 & 10, 2017, during the Pecan Festival.  Main Street is happy to be moving the show back downtown at the Okmulgee Main Street office at 100 E. 6th Street. The Oklahoma Main Street Center will honor Main Street communities, organizations, and individuals for outstanding achievements in the past year of the Main Street program. There are 23 categories. OKMULGEE has been nominated in the following categories!

OrangeFest (Co-Sponsored with OSUIT)

OrangeFest is a community celebration hosted by Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology and the Main Street Association in downtown Okmulgee. The annual festival offers a day of free, family-friendly fun that includes live music, food trucks, a chalk walk, art displays, and culminates with a 5K Glo Run.

Admission and parking are free.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

1:00 PM - 7:00 PM - CHALK WALK.  It’s time to paint the town orange... well, chalk the town orange at least. Participate in this year’s Chalk Walk on the Okmulgee Square sidewalk surrounding the Creek Council House.  The theme for this year’s Chalk Walk event is “OrangeFest” which may include OSU logos, Pistol Pete, or be interpreted in other ways (e.g. citrus). The design must incorporate the color orange.  Artists may begin their artwork at 1:00.  Judging will take place at 7:00 pm.  Click here to download rules & entry form.

The 2016 Car & Truck Show will be held in beautiful Downtown Okmulgee at 7th & Morton (East of the Orpheum) on Saturday, October 22, 2016.  Registration begins at 9:00 am.  Registration Fee is $20 (Early Registration is $15 if received by October 14)  Show Times are 11 am - 3 pm.   There are goody bags for all exhibitors including a Chili Tasting Kit!.  All makes & models welcome!  Bring the family and enjoy a day at the Chili Fest and Car Show!

The last Thursday of September will feature the Karaoke in the Park series from 5 - 7 p.m.

Orpheum Theatre 96th Birthday Celebration

The Orpheum’s 96th Anniversary celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24. The doors will open at 1:15 p.m. with videos starting at 1:30 p.m.

Owner John McConnel has asked several speakers to provide a program about the many things happening downtown with new businesses, renovations of older buildings and facade work. This program will start at 2 p.m. followed by a cartoon and a movie.

Half of the ticket sales will be donated to the Design Grant fund for storefront renovations.

Food For Thought - 2016 Mural Project

The Okmulgee Arts Council in conjunction with the Okmulgee Main Street Design Committee and Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce hereby announce the 2016 Okmulgee Mural Project & Food For Thought Event.

A public selection dinner called “Food for Thought” will take place on May 26, 2016 at the Okmulgee Community Center.  Top mural artists will give a brief presentation of his or her artwork and explain why the artistic piece should be chosen for the mural. At the end of the night, each invited guest will have the opportunity to vote to determine the “People’s Choice” Award Winner for the 2016 Okmulgee Mural Project.

Tickets to the "Food for Thought" dinner event are $10 and can be purchased at the Okmulgee Main Street office or at the door.

Chalk Walk (OrangeFest)

The Chalk Walk is an OrangeFest Activity jointly sponsored by Okmulgee Main Street and Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.  Artists are free to create, with colored chalk (provided), a picture on the pavement around the Council House. Drawings are created in full view of the public, who are encouraged to interact with the artists and show their support.

Chalk artists may start laying out their masterpieces anytime after 12:00 noon on Friday, April 8th.  Judging will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. 

Theme for this event is "OrangeFest".  Your creation must use the color orange.

All participants must fill out a registration form. (download here)  Forms can be downloaded here or picked up at the Okmulgee Main Street Office.  Rules can be found at the Main Street office or (downloaded here).

Categories are:

Adult (18 years +)
Youth (12 - 17 years)
Kids (6 - 11 years)

Winners will be chosen in each categories as well as "Best of Show".

There will also be a "Kid's Gallery" (ages 1 - 5) where children will have free chalk to draw in a pre-determined areas on the square.

Are you musically talented?  The "Voice of Okmulgee" is your chance to share your talent with the Okmulgee community.  This competition is just like "The Voice".  Whether you're in a band or a local artist, we want to hear from you.  The competition begins in the historic Orpheum Theatre at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26th.  The top 3 winners will perform in Downtown Okmulgee during the OrangeFest on Friday April 8!
