Will Sampson Memorial Statue
The statue will stand in downtown Okmulgee, Oklahoma, serving as a lasting tribute to Sampson's impact on the arts and cultural heritage. The design, created by esteemed artist Kenneth Johnson, will combine representations of Will Sampson in various character roles alongside a traditional depiction of the man that citizens of Okmulgee and the Muscogee Nation knew and admired. This meaningful tribute will celebrate both his professional achievements and his role as a cultural ambassador.

About Will "Sonny" Sampson
Will "Sonny" Sampson was a proud citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, a member of Vpeka Etvlwv (Arbeka Tribal Town), and of the Kaccvlke (Tiger Clan). His life and career broke barriers for Native peoples in the arts and served as a lasting beacon of cultural pride. While his achievements in film and television brought him national recognition, he never strayed from his roots. He carried our traditions, values, and spirit into every chapter of his life, remaining deeply connected to his Muscogee identity.
