About Okmulgee Main Street
Pioneering Community Revitalization Since 1986
Welcome to Okmulgee Main Street, a cornerstone of community pride, unity, and revitalization for over three decades! Incepted in 1986, we were among the pioneering five communities in Oklahoma to join the Main Street initiative, highlighting our early and steadfast commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in Okmulgee. Our work has borne fruit through the years; in 1992, the Okmulgee Downtown Historic District earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, and by 2002, our city was named one of the top five Great American Main Streets. Most recently, in 2022, we were honored once again as an Accredited Main Street America™ program, marking 37 years of exemplary performance, dedication, and resilience.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we're not just fulfilling a mission; we're fueling a movement. Our tax-exempt status ensures that every donation and effort directly advances our community-focused objectives, enabling us to plan, coordinate, and implement programs aimed at solidifying the long-term economic base of downtown Okmulgee. We offer more than mere charity; we offer a collective dream, fortified by organized events, support to local businesses, and the nurturing of public spaces. We make the most of our heritage while actively embracing the future, continually striving for an Okmulgee that is not just a place to live, but a place to love.
Our approach is four-fold, encompassing organization, promotion, design, and economic restructuring. Through these pillars, we serve our community with unyielding passion. We seek to cultivate an environment where residents, business owners, tourists, and students alike can experience a sense of belonging, engagement, and delight. Together, we've navigated changes, faced challenges head-on, and celebrated numerous successes—all with the indomitable spirit of our community at the core.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Your support—whether as a community member, volunteer, or supporter—helps write the ever-unfolding story of Okmulgee, ensuring it stands as a beacon for current residents and future generations alike. Together, let's continue to make Okmulgee a vibrant, thriving, and irresistible place to live, work, and visit.
